1. Meditation can help you deal with stress and negative emotions.

2. At the same time, meditation could boost positive skills like memory and awareness.

3. Meditating for years is associated with brain changes that help you get along with others.

4. It doesn't take long to see meditation's benefits — just weeks can change your brain.

5. The benefits of meditation extend to other parts of your body too, including your heart.

6. There are also signs that meditation can help boost your immune system — or at least help ward off the flu.

7. Meditation may help prevent genetic damage.

Do you have any book recommendations that offer guidance and inspiration for maintaining a regular practice?

Hi PWM - Justin Whitaker (a co-founder of Guideful) will be releasing an e-book soon, but your question gets to the root of why we started Guideful: we want to keep people meditating. Here are some of my favorite books:

"You are Here" - Thich Nhat Hanh

"Peace is in Every Step" - Thich Nhat Hanh

"The Headspace Guide to Meditation and Mindfulness" - Andy Puddicombe

Hi pwm,

Yes - I'll be coming out with a short, accessible work-book later this summer. In the meantime, Bob's recommendations are excellent. I'd also add Sharon Salzberg, Joseph Goldstein, Susan Piver, the Dalai Lama, and Chogyam Trungpa to the list of wonderful authors. If a book or books are what you are looking for, I would recommend reading the beginnings of books by these authors and seeing if they resonate with you. If so, make a practice of reading a bit, maybe just 5 or 10 minutes, alongside your daily meditation schedule. Adding a little time to journal your thoughts in that time is also often very helpful.

With best wishes - Justin w.
